Doors Opened in D.C.
Just a two-minute drive from the U.S. Capitol — the legislative mecca of America — visitors flock to the Museum of the Bible, which celebrates the history of the globe’s best-selling book. The museum is known for its immersive exhibits and use of technology to share the Bible’s teachings, making it the perfect venue for the second annual National Gathering of Prayer and Repentance.
Thanks to invitations by Pastor Jim Garlow, CEO of Well Versed, which trains governmental leaders about the biblical principles of governance, and Tony Perkins, president of Family Research Council, Church United was able to combine our Washington, D.C. Awakening Tour with the national prayer gathering.
This year, God provided several first-time opportunities for our tour, including a divinely appointed meeting with Polly Jordan, wife of Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan. Before we met with Congressman Jordan, Polly provided our Church United Pastors with a private tour of the Museum of the Bible. I reciprocated her kindness by sharing with her the testimonies of each of the pastors present. She was moved by their stories.
After Polly’s tour, we asked how we could pray for her family. She teared up, sharing she had just learned one of their kids was suffering a medical emergency overseas. We pledged to keep them in our prayers. Two weeks later we received a praise report: the medical issue was healed!
After our time with Polly, the Church United Pastors met with Congressman Jordan and one of his House colleagues. We also met with two U.S. Senators, including Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson, who focused on issues centering on the medical fallout over vaccines. He discussed the “hubris” of politicians, bureaucrats, and doctors who fail to acknowledge injury caused by a host of vaccines, including those mandated for children and COVID-19 jabs.
These inside-the-beltway conversations are just a few examples that enlighten pastors about what’s happening in our nation and ultimately move them to engagement.
Unfortunately, House Speaker Mike Johnson was not available to meet with us as he had during previous tours. It’s hard to articulate just how busy the Speaker’s schedule has become. In his absence, Speaker Johnson arranged for us to see his office and then had escorts take us through yet another significant door, this one to the exclusive Speaker’s Balcony, offering the best view from the Capitol grounds, looking directly down the mall to the Washington Monument with the backdrop of the Lincoln Memorial. The view was breathtaking and stunning, reminding us of why it’s so important that the space is occupied by a leader committed to the things of God.
We are thankful to God for opening this door for Speaker Johnson, which in turn opens other doors for biblically minded believers.
