An Exodus
The movement of thousands of children from Central America to the American border is alarming. When we watch the news, politicians on both sides condemn what is happening: the lack of enforcement of laws, the trafficking of humans, and the poverty causing the migration. As Christians, we have the hope that the Word of God still has the answers for a situation that threatens to destabilize our nation.
The Bible beautifully and poignantly explains the situation which the Biden administration fails to understand:
“I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Therefore, choose life, that both you and your descendants may live…that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers...” (Deuteronomy 30:19-20).
In reading American history, we see a similar promise made by the Founders of this nation unto God, to honor God, with an expectation that their descendants would dwell and remain in the land. It was expected by the founders and the early settlers of this nation, that America would dwell and inhabit the land, contingent upon their ongoing exaltation of the Lord, and His commandments.
The Lord makes an equally strong promise for disobedience,
“But it shall come to pass, if you do not obey the voice of the Lord your God…A nation whom you have not known shall eat the fruit of your land and the produce of your labor. The alien who is among you shall rise higher and higher above you, and you shall come down lower and lower…he shall be the head and you shall be the tail.” (Deuteronomy 28:33, 43).
Can anyone deny that the migration of an expected 1 million migrants from Central America, this year alone is the modern equivalent of a city? US Border Patrol estimates anywhere from 1 to 2 million migrants are expected each year under the Biden administration. In March 2021, the highest number of unaccompanied children entered the United States in 15 years. The United States is struggling to shelter thousands of families and thousands of orphaned children who have immigrated to the US, many unlawfully. My hometown of San Diego is currently housing 1,500 migrant girls, all of whom entered the US without their parents. Add to this number the approximately 12 - 16 million undocumented immigrants in our nation, and you will be witnessing a momentous change in our nation as we prove God’s word true and accurate.
Since 1973, the year abortion was legalized in the US, over 60 million abortions have been performed. God commanded us to preserve life, protect life, and choose life. America has murdered 60 million of its children, and now the Lord has brought another nation to our borders, which will “eat the fruit of our land,” in the form of the many social programs which the government will now provide: housing assistance, free medical care, free education, and stimulus checks, many of which most Americans will not qualify for or receive. Can we deny that the Lord is bringing children to our borders to replace those our nation violently and grossly killed in abortion clinics like Planned Parenthood?
My point is not to anger or distress you, but rather to elaborate on the accuracy of the Word of God. While the Democrats promise to further enslave new Hispanic immigrants to create a PERMANENT underclass of unskilled, uneducated laborers, Republicans miss the opportunity to humble ourselves and continue to affirm, “My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.” (Deuteronomy 8:17). Neither response is correct. The Democratic solution is to keep providing endless services for Hispanic immigrants, including my neighbors, my clients, my family members. The Lord in turn, asks Hispanics to be a blessing to the nation which has housed and protected us by giving our best fruits, our best labor, and seeking its prosperity. The Republican approach is to punish the immigrant who may be God’s solution to establish American might, in lieu of the aborted children, roughly equal to the entire state of California and New York. These children would have fought our interests, at home and abroad, constructed new cities, educated new leaders, healed the sick, and created solutions to our nation’s problems. Instead, the Lord is bringing to remembrance his great love for children, those He created which no man or woman, has the right to destroy.
As Christians, the Lord has called us to be both compassionate and just. Mercy without the law is misguided and false. Law without mercy is cruel and unforgiving. We are called to embody our Father’s heart for his creation, but also his plan for the Church as His central focus on earth. So how do we respond to the current immigration crisis? We acknowledge our role in our national genocide and repent of the murders that have happened on our watch. While our churches collected funds for faraway lands, there was blood of innocent children running in the sewers of our streets. Our grief and sorrow will never bring those children back to life, but we can ask the Lord what we can do.
The answer is in the Church. The reality is that most immigrants will seek help from their churches, as centers of refuge and comfort. All Hispanic churches are comprised of large numbers of immigrants, who will likewise have relatives who are in need, hurting, lost, and need the Gospel. Mega-Churches mostly comprised of white, wealthier populations, need not look far to send money to Missions. The mission field is here, now, within our borders. The opportunity to expand the reach of the Gospel, and transform our nation, is ours, here and now. White churches can partner with their Hispanic counterparts, and breakdown decades of cultural, linguistic, and economic division. We need each other now. Unless we partner together, Hispanics will be relegated to the same future the Democrats have ensured for Blacks in this country: permanent poverty and resentment. Unless we partner together, White churches will see a rapid demographic decline, closures, and with it, the demise of its influence in our society. In partnering with Hispanic churches, needs will be met that the government cannot provide: Hope, Provision, and Comfort, in the form of Jesus Christ.
The bride of Christ can be ready to do what we alone are equipped to do: change man and change our nation through Jesus Christ. When we step in boldly, without hesitation, we “adorn the doctrine of God in all things.” (Titus 2:10)
Yes, and Amen.
